GLS + ReturnMate

BetaThis integration is production-deployed and merchant-usable today. We're still expanding feature coverage and may iterate on behaviour as we learn from real usage. No service interruptions are expected.

GLS runs one of the broadest European road-parcel networks, with particular strength in Germany and Central Europe. ReturnMate connects to the GLS Web API (ShipIt) for label generation and shipment management on your GLS contract. Newly released in Beta — a practical European leg alongside DPD (UK), PostNL, and DHL Parcel (Germany).

§ 01 — Capabilities

What the GLS connection actually does.

  • European parcel labels via the GLS Web API (ShipIt)
  • Parcel and Express products on your GLS contract
  • True-origin labels — the customer's address prints as sender on return labels
  • Multi-parcel shipments with per-unit weights
  • Shipment cancellation from the RMA
  • Label PDFs served straight into the portal and admin
§ 02 — In practice

Where it earns its place.

German and Central European merchants

GLS covers domestic DE volume and most Central European lanes on one contract — a single-carrier answer for merchants serving several EU markets.

Cross-border EU returns

Returns from neighbouring EU markets ride the same GLS network and label format, keeping the returns flow uniform across countries.

Clean sender details on returns

ReturnMate passes the true origin as an alternative shipper address, so return labels show the customer as sender instead of your contract address — cleaner for warehouse intake and carrier queries.

§ 03 — Setup

How GLS gets connected.

Carrier accounts are set up by our team, not by you. We contact GLS directly, obtain API access against your existing commercial account, and apply it — so you never have to source or handle API credentials.

  1. You send us three things

Your existing GLS account number, written authority for ReturnMate to contact them on your behalf, and your account manager's name, email and phone number.

  2. We contact GLS

Our support team requests API access against your account and handles the paperwork and technical back-and-forth with the carrier.

  3. We apply the credentials

Credentials are stored encrypted against your shop. They are never shown to you and never need to be — there is nothing for you to paste or maintain.

  4. We test it end to end

We generate a test label — including the dangerous goods transport document where it applies — and confirm it works before the carrier goes live for your team.

Turnaround varies by carrier, depending on how quickly they issue API access. Support confirms the expected timeline for GLS when you start onboarding. Don't have an account with them yet? We can help you set one up.

§ FAQ

Questions about GLS.

What does Beta mean for GLS?

The integration is deployed and available to connect today — labels, multi-parcel shipments, and cancellation are wired end-to-end. Beta means it's newly released and still accumulating real-world merchant mileage; test on the QS system before going live.

Is tracking synced into ReturnMate?

Not yet — GLS Track & Trace is a separately-credentialed GLS product outside the ShipIt scope. Tracking links out to GLS's tracking page; native sync lands once Track & Trace access is added.

Does GLS support dangerous goods?

No — DG-flagged SKUs are automatically routed to a DG-capable carrier and GLS is blocked for those shipments.
